The night and the forest, these are the places where the early Romantics felt at home. The same was true of Franz Schubert, who we know enjoyed leaving Vienna to come to himself in nature. His songs and choral works are therefore teeming with rustling leaves, babbling brooks, singing nightingales and darting fish. But Schubert’s music does more than simply paint nature. As befits a true romantic, his music is chiefly about the emotions that nature evokes in the individual. Ex Tempore (cond. Florian Heyerick) performs several of his most sombre works for male choir.

Tijdens het eerste con­cert van de reeks Younger than Jesus gaat Hendrik Lasure in dialoog met de motet­ten van Johann Sebastian Bach. Lasure com­poneert voor de gele­gen­heid enkele nieuwe werken en laat zich daar­bij lei­den door de har­monie van de orig­inele motet­ten gebracht door Florian Heyerick’s Ex Tempore. De elek­trische gitaren, syn­the­siz­er, bas en drums van Warm Bad, Lasure’s ensem­ble, creëren een koor van snaren in de Brugse Sint-Gilliskerk.

As Amaranthe Oudenaarde are gearing up for the World Choir Games 2023, they are doing several concerts with a new programme, centering around Spanish music. In a concert programme exploring the evening, the night, and the act of dreaming, Duartes vocal ensemble will be performing one of my recent compositions, Een Verbena, from the triptych Zomerpromenade. The programme will also include compositions by fellow Flemish composers, such as Lara Denies, Jan Van der Roost, and other choral favourites such as William Byrd, Ola Gjeilo, and Ēriks Ešenvalds.

After having to postpone due to Corona, finally performing J.S. Bach’s Hohe Messe (Messe in h-moll, BWV 232) with Kalliope in Ghent. This will be Kalliope’s final concert, as conductor Sabine Haenebalcke is retiring. The proceeds will go to Rudi Vranckx’s project Imagine Mosul.
